The Blog of Pastor Mike Wilkins

In The Long Run

"The long run" referred to in the title of this blog is, in the first place, the many years Mike Wilkins served as West London's solo pastor, and then its Senior Pastor, since he and his wife Deb moved to London (and this church) in 1984.

In these past few years (beginning November 2011,) Mike's various health challenges, particularly a serious and ongoing case of cancer, has added another layer to the "long run" metaphor, and lots to blog about. Mike is currently on an extended Sick Leave, but generally worships with the church family on Sunday mornings.

With the publication of a book he wrote in 2016 entitled "Glory in the Face" (now available electronically and in paperback from, and other online venders), Mike has just launched a new website, which will serve as a sort of scrapbook for readers of the book, with relevant background photos, for example, of That Last Final Solo Canoe Trip in May, 2011, as well as additional information about the book, and--coming soon--a new set of blog posts, mostly about the peace of God and the joy of the Lord and the face of Christ and the strength to face anything. You'll find the new website now at

    That paperback book

December 6, 2016 by Mike Wilkins

My publisher tells me that “Amazon must like me”! Although their best guess (on December 2) was that the paperback version of my little book might be available on the twelfth day of December (which did sound like an appropriately Christmas-ish length of time), in fact, it made it onto both the Canadian and American Amazon websites late this past Sunday afternoon. So there it is! More-or-less in time for Christmas. And perhaps just the thing for the Non-Kindle crowd.

So this is me, using this blog, as promised, to announce that “what I did on my summer vacation” is now in print (as well as electronically) for anyone interested. You can find it on by title: “Glory in the Face — or under my name, although, as it turns out, there are apparently a plurality of “Mike Wilkins” in the world who have written books that Amazon sells.

Four of them (all children’s books) ARE mine, from the 1970’s: “I am a Duck,” “The Unwanted Adventure of Harold Greenhouse” and two other Harold Greenhouse books. On the other hand, I take no responsibility for a book co-written by some other Mike Wilkins entitled, “Zen, Sex and a Bullet in the Head.” Just to be clear about that.

I do hope, and it is my prayer, that what the Lord Jesus strengthened me to write this summer will be an encouragement to you to look to him for the strength you need to have a hope-filled Christmas and a new year of peace and joy.

Mike and Debbie: Frances and I are most grateful for your book which you sent to us. Bless you! What a good read. Your writing skills are clearly evident along with your great humour and unique expressions. Your application of biblical principles to a serious physical need is inspiring and instructive. I truly hope pastors everywhere will benefit from it - especially those younger ones who will need to know how to face such issues in ministry - or even personally. It was a blessing to us and a testimony to your spiritual maturity and sturdy foundation upon the truth of a sovereign God. Suffering is no small tool He uses to mold our lives into Christlikeness. Thank you for humbly and wisely using your experience to benefit all of us. We loved your sweet references to Debby 's important and supportive role in your difficult journey. A beautiful and helpful testimony to one of God's many purposes for marriage and the role each must play in it. Lots of love and prayers, Arnold and Frances

The thing about blogs can find out about them, leave them, and return to them. What a wonderful surprise to discover, even as this year winds down, what you were able to accomplish during the summer months! I'll be on the look out for a printed version of GLORY IN THE FACE. Congratulations, Mike!

CONGRATS, I just bought for my Kindle, can't wait to read it. Thank you, Mike dear, for making this happen. And praise be to God for giving you strength for this difficult publishing endeavor, and for putting all the AMAZON pieces together so neatly and quickly. It will be a global blessing --there are so many of us out there who have walked in those moccasins.. Praise God indeed. How wonderful to see such "beauty for ashes". Love to you and yours, A.Lois

"On the other hand...." One of the funniest disclaimers I've ever read. Fantastic! :-)
